Section 1: Quantitative Techniques & Data Interpretation
This is the most preparation-intensive section for commerce students. High-frequency topics across CMAT papers:
Percentages, Profit & Loss, Simple & Compound Interest — 4 to 5 questions every paper
Time, Speed & Distance + Time & Work — 3 to 4 questions
Data Interpretation (Tables, Bar Graphs, Pie Charts) — 3 to 4 questions
Number System — 2 to 3 questions
Algebra: Linear and Quadratic Equations — 2 to 3 questions
Geometry and Mensuration — 2 questions
Permutations, Combinations and Probability — 1 to 2 questions
Coach's note: CMAT QT is easier than CAT Quant but harder than most state MBA exams. Class 12 level Maths is sufficient — no advanced topics needed.
Section 2: Logical Reasoning
CMAT Logical Reasoning is the most scoring section for students who practise consistently. High-frequency topics:
Linear and Circular Arrangements — 4 to 5 questions
Blood Relations — 2 to 3 questions
Syllogisms — 2 to 3 questions
Critical Reasoning (Strengthen/Weaken/Assumption) — 3 to 4 questions
Direction Sense and Coding-Decoding — 2 questions
Input-Output and Series — 2 questions
Section 3: Language Comprehension
Reading Comprehension — 2 passages, 8 to 10 questions. Inference and author-tone based
Para Jumbles — 3 to 4 questions
Grammar — Error Spotting, Sentence Correction — 4 to 5 questions
Vocabulary — Synonyms, Antonyms, Fill in the Blanks — 3 to 4 questions

Section 4: General Awareness
GA is the most unpredictable section. The key is consistent daily reading for 3 to 6 months — not last-minute cramming.
Current Affairs (last 6 months) — Business and Economy news — 8 to 10 questions
Static GK — Awards, Books, Important Dates, Summits — 5 to 6 questions
Banking, Finance, RBI Policies — 4 to 5 questions
Sports, Science, Technology news — 3 to 4 questions
Government Schemes (PM schemes, Budget highlights) — 2 to 3 questions
Section 5: Innovation & Entrepreneurship (Optional)
This optional section was introduced in 2022. Attempting it can boost your total to 500. Most top colleges like JBIMS and SIMSREE do not make the optional section mandatory for admission, but a strong score here improves your overall percentile.

Has the CMAT 2027 syllabus changed from previous years?
NTA has not announced any structural change to the CMAT 2027 syllabus. The 4 core sections (QT & DI, LR, LC, GA) remain the same. The optional Innovation & Entrepreneurship section (introduced in 2022) continues. Always verify on the official NTA CMAT website once the official notification is released.
Which section is most important in CMAT 2027?
Logical Reasoning and Language Comprehension are the highest-scoring sections for most students — they require practice but not complex background knowledge. Quantitative Techniques requires the most preparation time. General Awareness is unpredictable but consistent daily reading over 6 months covers most questions.
Is the optional Innovation & Entrepreneurship section compulsory?
No — it is optional. However, attempting it can increase your total marks and percentile. If you are targeting colleges that consider the optional section score, attempt it. Most students skip it or attempt it without dedicated preparation — a few hours of start-up ecosystem reading can yield 3 to 4 correct answers.
How many questions are there in CMAT 2027?
100 compulsory questions across 4 sections (25 each) for 400 marks. An optional 5th section of 25 questions for 100 marks takes the maximum to 500. Each correct answer gives +4 marks and each wrong answer costs -1 mark.
Is CMAT syllabus similar to CAT?
CMAT and CAT share QA and Verbal sections but differ significantly in difficulty and structure. CMAT QA is Class 12 level — easier than CAT. CMAT has a dedicated General Awareness and Logical Reasoning section that CAT does not. A student preparing for CAT is largely prepared for CMAT — but must add GA preparation and LR practice specifically for CMAT.
