CUET UG 2026 syllabus

By Headache Tutorials, Indore — Expert Coaching for CAT, CMAT, IPMAT & CUET

The CUET UG 2026 syllabus has been officially released by the National Testing Agency (NTA) on December 27, 2025. If you're appearing for CUET 2026, this is the single most important document to understand before you start your preparation. One exam, 240+ universities, 37 subjects — and your entire strategy depends on knowing exactly what is tested.

At Headache Tutorials, Indore, we coach students for CUET every year. This guide gives you everything you need: a complete section-wise syllabus breakdown, exam pattern, marking scheme, key changes for 2026, and our expert preparation strategy for each section.

What is CUET UG 2026?

CUET (Common University Entrance Test) UG is conducted by the National Testing Agency (NTA) for admission to undergraduate programs across central, state, deemed, and private universities in India. Starting from 2022, it replaced individual university entrance tests for most central universities.

  • 240+ participating universities including DU, BHU, JNU, JMI, IGNOU and more

  • Mode: Computer-Based Test (CBT) only

  • Marking: +5 for correct, –1 for incorrect

  • Questions per paper: 50 MCQs (all compulsory — no optional questions from 2026)

  • Time per subject: 60 minutes

  • Total marks per subject: 250

  • Age limit: No age limit for CUET UG 2026

  • Maximum subjects you can choose: 5 (up to 1 language + up to 3 domain + General Test)

Key Changes in CUET 2026 Syllabus

  • Subjects reduced from 63 to 37: Entrepreneurship, Teaching Aptitude, Legal Studies, Performing Arts and several others removed. Admissions for those courses are now via the General Aptitude Test score.

  • No optional questions: All 50 questions are compulsory. No choose-any-40 flexibility anymore.

  • No subject restrictions: You can now choose any CUET subject regardless of what you studied in Class 12. A Science student can attempt History; a Commerce student can attempt Biology.

  • General Test renamed: The General Test is now officially called the General Aptitude Test (GAT) with a revised, more structured syllabus.

  • Standardised duration: Every subject paper is now exactly 60 minutes.

Important Dates for CUET 2026

  • Official Notification Released: January 3, 2026

  • Syllabus Published: December 27, 2025

  • Application Window: January 3 — February 25, 2026 (extended)

  • CUET UG 2026 Exam Date: To be announced by NTA (expected May–June 2026)

  • Admit Card: 2–3 weeks before exam date

  • Result: Expected July 2026

How to Choose Your CUET Subjects Strategically

  • Step 1: Decide your target university and course first (e.g. DU B.Com Honours, BHU BSc, JNU BA Economics)

  • Step 2: Check that university's CUET subject requirements for your course on their official website

  • Step 3: Select Language (usually English) + Domain subjects required + GAT if needed

  • Step 4: Add extra domain subjects as backup for other universities — up to 5 subjects total

Important: Admission is based on section-wise scores, not your total across all subjects. Weak performance in one subject directly affects your eligibility for that course regardless of how well you did in others.

CUET 2026 Preparation Strategy: Section-by-Section

For Domain Subjects: NCERT is King

80–85% of domain questions come directly from Class 12 NCERT textbooks. Read every line, every table, every diagram in your NCERT. Then solve MCQs from previous CUET papers (2022–2025) topic by topic. Preparing for your boards simultaneously covers 90% of CUET domain preparation.

For Language Section: Speed & Accuracy

Read quality material daily — newspaper editorials (The Hindu, Indian Express), good fiction and non-fiction. Practice Reading Comprehension under timed conditions. Revise grammar rules from a standard reference. Focus on Para Jumbles and Cloze Tests — these are frequently asked.

For the GAT: The Headache Tutorials Advantage

The GAT is where students from coaching institutes have a massive edge. Most school students don't prepare for Logical Reasoning or Data Interpretation in Class 12 — which is exactly what the GAT tests.

  • Quant: Our free question bank at headachetutorials.com has topic-wise sheets on Percentages, Profit & Loss, Time & Work, SI/CI — perfect for CUET GAT Quant.

  • LR: Practice seating arrangements, coding-decoding, blood relations daily. CUET 2025 had circular seating and calendar questions.

  • GK: Read a monthly GK capsule. Focus on government schemes, sports, awards and international summits from the last 6 months.

  • Science: Revise Class 9–10 NCERT Science chapters — that's the right level for this section.

Top Universities Accepting CUET 2026

  • Delhi University (DU) — BA/BCom/BSc Honours programs. CUET score is the only basis for admission.

  • Banaras Hindu University (BHU) — All major UG programs. One of the most sought-after CUET universities.

  • JNU (Jawaharlal Nehru University) — Accepts CUET for BA/BSc programs.

  • Jamia Millia Islamia (JMI) — Several UG programs use CUET scores.

  • Hyderabad Central University, Pondicherry University, Allahabad University and 200+ more.

A score of 200+ is considered good for most courses. For the most competitive DU programs, 240+ per subject is the target.

CUET vs Board Exams — Can You Prepare for Both Together?

Yes — and this is one of CUET's biggest advantages. Since domain subjects are based on Class 12 NCERT, strong board preparation covers 90% of your CUET domain work. The only extra effort required is the GAT (Quant + LR + GK), Language section practice in MCQ format, and timed mock tests. At Headache Tutorials, our CUET coaching integrates all of this alongside your board subjects so you don't need double the study hours.

Frequently Asked Questions: CUET Syllabus 2026

Is the CUET 2026 syllabus the same as 2025?

Mostly yes, but with important changes: subjects reduced from 63 to 37, no optional questions, General Test renamed to GAT with a revised syllabus, and no subject restrictions based on Class 12 stream. Domain subject content remains Class 12 NCERT-based.

Is the General Test compulsory in CUET 2026?

No. Whether you need the GAT depends entirely on your target university and course. Check your specific university's official requirements.

Can Arts or Commerce students appear for CUET 2026 without Maths?

Yes. There are no subject restrictions in CUET 2026. Any student can choose any 5 subjects. However, for courses that require Mathematics as a domain subject (like BSc Maths at DU), you'll need to appear for the Maths paper.

What is a good score in CUET 2026?

For top DU programs like BCom Honours or English Honours, you need 95%+ (around 237+ out of 250) in relevant subjects. A score of 200+ is competitive for most other universities.

How many attempts can I give for CUET?

There is no attempt limit and no age limit for CUET UG. You can appear every year. Strategically, the best time is in the year you're appearing for or have just passed your Class 12 boards.

When is the CUET 2026 exam date?

NTA has not yet announced the exact date. Based on previous years, CUET 2026 is expected in May–June 2026. The application window was open from January 3 to February 25, 2026. Keep checking nta.ac.in for updates.
