Topic Priority Matrix
Arithmetic: approximately 40% weightage, highest priority, easy to medium difficulty.
Algebra: approximately 25% weightage, high priority, medium difficulty.
Geometry and Mensuration: approximately 20% weightage, medium priority, medium to hard.
Number System: approximately 10% weightage, high priority, medium difficulty.
Modern Maths (P&C, Probability): approximately 5% weightage, medium priority, hard.
Arithmetic — Highest Priority (40%)
Cover in this order: Percentages, Profit and Loss, Ratio and Proportion, Time Speed Distance, Time and Work, Mixtures and Alligations, Simple and Compound Interest. Books: RS Aggarwal Arithmetic chapters then Arun Sharma Level 1-2 exercises.
SA Section Strategy — IIM Indore Only
The Short Answer section has NO negative marking. Attempt every single SA question even if unsure. For uncertain answers eliminate impossible options and estimate. SA answers are usually clean integers. Round numbers intelligently. Time allocation: 45 minutes for QA MCQ, 35 minutes for SA.
Tanisq Chouhan's QA Strategy
I focused 60% of my QA time on Arithmetic and Algebra in the first year. Once those were solid, Geometry became easy to build on. I never skipped SA questions — even wrong guesses gave 0 but right guesses gave +4. I probably picked up 20 extra marks from SA alone. — Tanisq Chouhan, AIR 1 JIPMAT
